It is no surprise that samosa, a mouthwatering, deep-fried, cheap, crispy, and golden brown pocket of goodness, has a day dedicated to celebrating it. If you’ve never tried one, you’re definitely missing out and today would be a great excuse to grab the opportunity and try the widely loved pastry!
The triangular-shaped, savoury dish consists of a shell primarily made of wheat or maida flour that is filled with onions, peas and loads of potatoes that are cooked in a variety of spices. They even come in non-veg options with minced beef, chicken or lamb fillings. Recently, there have been bizarre options for the snack with sweet fillings such as cinnamon cheesecake, mango, Nutella and coconut. The samosa is usually served hot with fresh chutney, yoghurt, and/or a sweet tamarind-based sauce on the side.
The origin of World Samosa Day is uncertain, but that shouldn’t stop you from celebrating the appetiser on September 5th every year! You can hold a friendly samosa cook-off for your friends and family or try as many samosas as you can don’t forget to take a picture of your food before diving in and share it on social media with the hashtag #WorldSamosaDay and tag us @theindiantrumpet.
Here, we curated a list of a few places that serve samosas.
Dhaba Lane

The homegrown Punjabi Restaurant, Dhaba Lane, celebrates World Samosa Day by offering their customers Samosa Chaat with two cups of chai; the latter is absolutely FREE! Their Samosa Chaat consists of a crispy samosa layered with chickpea curry, chutneys, yoghurt, spices, pomegranates, and sev to hit all the flavour profiles and textures in one dish. The Samosa Chaat’s spices-induced masala is sure to make you swoon with just its visuals. This perfectly balanced dish is more comforting when shared with friends and family over a cup of chai (Free of course! *wink*).
